The St James’ Eco Church action was initiated as a response to the climate emergency and uses the framework set out by the A Rocha Eco Church Programme to guide our church’s care of God’s creation. Through this scheme, we have received our bronze award for being an ‘Eco Church’ and are now working towards our Silver accreditation. At St James’ we regularly take church outside and have open-air services and events when the British weather allows! We find this an easy way to gather together to appreciate the abundance of provision within our natural environment. Woodland walks and community get togethers in our wonderful village site allow us to bring the whole community together whilst appreciating the importance of the environment around us.
We are fortunate in the Surrey Hills to be surrounded by acres of countryside, but with that incredible blessing comes great responsibility.
We believe that the preservation of our natural resources, the growth of nature, the care taken to preserve our church building, the products we use and the recycling we undertake is just as important as the message that is preached. We seek every day to value, protect and care for all that God has blessed us with.
