Just a little further information about "Community Calls". We are fortunate in our communities to have many caring friends and neighbours to call on when we are in need and new support groups are springing up everywhere. Lucy Harlow, Carmel Murton and Rachel Orme-Smith have got together with a number of other volunteers (now too numerous to mention) to organize how best to help anybody who is self-isolating and needs someone to fetch a prescription or some shopping or is anxious about the whole situation . Please also check village pages/Facebook for updates. This support group is based in Abinger but we (at the Parish News) are happy to receive calls or requests from anyone in the area and we'll put people in touch with the right person to help.
Mid-Surrey Community Fridge has closed the fridge in the Dorking Christian Centre and is now a delivery service https://midsurreycommunityfridges.co.uk/ for any in need, even if just temporarily. Email the Dorking contact at email@example.com if you need a bag of food. They are also looking for funds and volunteers - see the website.
Mole Valley District Coucil has a new Community Helpline telephone number: 0300 200 1008, open Mon-Fri 8am - 6pm. Don't forget Annie Williams' shop in Abinger Hammer, formerly the Abinger Hammer Post Office, now a shop, newsagents and tea room. Again, Annie's shelves are far better stocked than the supermarkets. Because of the enforced closure of the tearooms and also the move towards working at home by local businesses who Annie provides with lunches, she is very keen to promote her other services, such as her home-baked cakes and take-away drinks and snacks. She is also happy to deliver locally to anyone who cannot get out. Just ring her on 01306 730701 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. And of course she will continue with the newspaper delivery service.
